Learn more about Lancaster
Lancaster’s historic downtown boasts three museums (The Sherman House, birthplace of Gen. William T. Sherman; the Ohio Glass Museum, showcasing glass manufacturing and the local impact in the “Pressed Glass Capital” of Ohio; and the Decorative Arts Center of Ohio, offering free, changing exhibits of various forms of art, which have included costumes by designer Edith Head that had never before seen outside Hollywood) with two others nearby (The Georgian Museum, a restored 1832 mansion, and AHA! Children’s Museum, with hands-on exhibits for kids). All are within walking distance.
Another famous spot is Mount Pleasant, rising above the fairgrounds in Rising Park. Take a hike up the path to the top and enjoy the view of Lancaster. On a clear day, it is even possible to see the Columbus downtown skyline!
The Lancaster Festival is a celebration of art and music, with concerts at various locations in and around the city, activities for children and families, and the much anticipated Art Walk each year which draws thousands to downtown. Many events are free.
